Trade Certification in Ontario ▼
There are 23 trades that are designated as compulsory trades in Ontario, where you must be registered as an apprentice, journeyperson candidate, or hold a Certificate of Qualification in the trade to work as a contractor.
There are also voluntary trades, where you are not legally required to hold a certification to work as a contractor in Ontario. We recommend that homeowners try to find contractors who do hold a certification, or some other form of qualification, such as membership in the GDHBA.
